Growing up on a dairy farm outside a small town in Minnesota has taught me some things about hard work, the outdoors, and the people I really enjoy in this world.   With helping my dad and grandpa out on the farm, to getting drafted and playing professional baseball for the Cleveland Indians, I’ve learned what to look for, watch out for and do for in a person.   With sports being such a big part of my life through school and with helping out on the farm, I had little time to hunt.   With weekends being really the only time I could go, my fascination with the sport really only started to grow about three years ago when I was drafted out of high school to play baseball.  With spring training starting in March and the season ending in late August, this left the fall of the year to do nothing but hunt.

Now with hunting and guiding more than 120 days a year, I have seen and used a lot of different hunting products, trying to find those that will give me an edge in the field.   With decoys, clothing and blinds having all come and gone,   there is one thing that has never changed when I go to the field and that is the TIM GROUNDS goose calls that hang around my neck.   The reason being, not only for the consistency, durability, and the “TRUE” Canada goose sound they give, but for TIM himself.   Such a down-to-earth guy!  From the first phone call when I was “Scott Threinen from Minnesota”, to the “Hey, Tim its Scott”, he has always given me the same respect, time and courtesy with whatever I have asked him.  From calling, tuning calls, to hunting, his knowledge and willingness to help me (and others) is second to none.  With phrases like,  “You have to help people to progress in this world”,  or “You have to work for what you get”,  has not only taken him but many other champions and call makers who have used his calls,  to make the sport what it is today.

So, with being around the waterfowl world and professional baseball, I have tried to surround myself with good down-to-earth people because believe me, “what they learn, they teach, and what they get, they give”.   This philosophy will take anyone a lot farther than a salesman with pretty colors just trying to cut you a deal.

SO PUT DOWN THE REST AND GET YA THE BEST CAUSE WITH 4 DECADES OF GEESE, 4 DECADES OF CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND 4 DECADES OF EXCELLENCE, THE BEST NEVER REST  - - BECAUSE THAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR.

‘COME GETCHA SOME OF A CHAMPION’

Brandon Fletcher, Easton, Illinois

1997 World Open Champion
1999 North American Champion
2000 North American Champion

I am Brandon Fletcher from Easton, Illinois.  I grew up chasing waterfowl along the Mississippi Flyway in west central Illinois and currently spend the winter months chasing ducks and geese from Canada to the southern states of the US.  In 1997 I became the youngest, at 26,  to ever win the World Open Goose Calling Championship and I most recently won the North American Masters in 1999 and again in 2000.

In the course of a year, whether I am in the field or on the stage, I’ve generally got a couple goose calls around my neck.  They might all sound a shade different, but all bare the name of “TIM GROUNDS”.  Tim is a gentleman who has not only manufactured a lot of goose calls, but also one who has made many champions to go with ‘em.  Through his dedication and hard work, Tim has become known far and wide by the sweet sounds he makes on a goose call and for passing it on to people like you and me.

Folks, let’s face it:  “realism” is the key to success when it comes to hunting waterfowl.  That’s why I use TIM GROUNDS Championship Calls.  They cover the whole spectrum of a goose’s language, whether we’re talking about the crisp tones or unbelievable volume they deliver;  one thing is brass fact:    they simply sound like a goose, they’re awesome!!

These calls are the chosen calls world wide by pro guides and champion callers and they’ve paved a track record to prove it.  So whether you want feet in your face or a long list of calling titles, you remember one thing:   TIM GROUNDS  Championship Calls won’t create magic  -  - but the people who use them sure will…….

Troy Dishner, Marion, Illinois

Here is a personal side of Tim:

I met Tim Grounds about 20 years ago while he was working in a sporting goods store.  I went in looking for a modified OLT A-50 (that flute call is what TIM retuned back then).   We looked through a number of them before I found one I could blow.  He showed me how to hold it and showed me some different notes.   I got so excited I could not wait to go back the next day and talk to him again.

I got to be a regular visitor where Tim worked;  he would always take time to help me, showing me some notes, honks, and  the gutteral sounds.

Sometimes we would just talk.  Many evenings, after I had walked up to the store without my call, Tim would throw me the keys to his El Camino and send me home to get it.   While the people shopped, Tim and I would practice, practice, and practice.

Back in 1987 he was managing a hunting club and asked me if I wanted a job as a guide. While guiding for two or three seasons he let me use one of the most straight-meat dogs in Southern Illinois, Wingmaster. In addition to letting me use his dog,, he always made sure, no matter what, that I had enough reeds and  plenty of calls for both  hunting and the calling contests.

Four or five years ago I bought a lab pup and sent her off to be trained.  She died during the training.  Tim heard about it and called me a couple days later and said,  “I found you a dog that is already trained.”  His name was “Cole”.   More than once Cole got lost out on the ice and Tim would get in his truck and drive like a bat out of Hell through the fields, pulling a jon boat.   We would have to bust through the ice and pull that dog out.

To sum all this up:  You would just have to know Tim to believe him.  He is one hell-of-a-guy and one-of-a-kind.   Today he is still my friend and still makes the best call on the market.

Altie Lannom, Marion, Illinois

First Place caller in the 2000 WORLD OPEN, Marion, IL

"My fascination with Canada geese started at a very early age. I used to sneak up on them in the fields around my house and I would listen to them and try to duplicate the sounds they made. I started hunting at age seven with my father and grandfather. At age 16 I bought a Guides Best goose

call and called in my first contest, The World Open. I met Tim Grounds about the same time and with his help I worked out a few glitches in the way I held my call and put the air into it. I remained a contender for awhile.  In the ten years I have been calling I've seen quite an evolution of calls in our ever-changing sport and a call maker who has stayed right on the top of it, offering eleven different goose calls, surely has one to fit anybody's style of calling. That maker would be Tim Grounds.  Tim's willingness to answer phone calls, and questions, and to help anyone and everyone he can with their calling has made a bigger impact on the call business than anyone else. I am so proud to be a part of it."

Ben Stoner

Hi, I'm Ben Stoner from northwest Indiana.  I first met Tim Grounds around 18 years ago at Monkey's Eyebrow Hunting Area, owned and ran by a good friend of mine, David Kelley.  I was only 8 years old and had already discovered my love of chasing and calling Canada geese.   I  talked to Tim that day and he told me that I had the desire and ambition that it took to play this game.  Back then goose calling was not much of a sport, but Tim told me that some day it would have its place. Now I'm blowing a goose call professionally and guiding for David Kelley, among many others.  I am fortunate enough to have a wife and job that lets me get to the field and chase honkers about 150 days a year.  I have hunted geese in four different countries and in almost every state that holds Canada geese or has some fly over.  I currently guide full time at Ultimate Waterfowlers in northeastern Illinois from Sept. 1 until late December.   I get to hunt in the heart of the migration and then I move down to Southern Illinois to guide on a few different clubs around Crab Orchard and Horseshoe Lake.

I grew up hunting resident geese in northwest Indiana but soon learned resident geese and refuge geese were two different species.  Learning to read geese in the air is what will make you a true caller.   Whether you are hunting resident geese or refuge geese there is always some little thing you will find that they like which will help you to be successful day in and day out.   Many people will read this and won't quite understand,  but will come to realize what I am saying.   Tim Grounds has been a great teacher for me, and now that he has retired from calling he will be a great judge because  I have seen him time after time, when one of us walks off the stage he might say, "You did good, awesome or unbelievable," or he might say, "You should have been cut in the first round."  He is 100% honest no matter who you are or whose call you are blowing.

I am proud to be where I am in this sport and happy to see it growing the way it is, especially for my son and for every other young caller out there.

 Good Luck,
Ben Stoner

Jason Topper
My name is Jason Topper; I am 26 years old and currently reside in Willow Street, which is near Lancaster, Pa. I am happily married to my wife, Tracy, and have 2 sons, Matthew & Tyler. I currently serve as the Deputy Chief of our local Volunteer Fire Company.

My desire to hunt started at the young age of 5 while living in NC, when I would go along with my Dad every chance I was allowed. I moved from NC at the age of 7 to Pennsylvania. Living in Pennsylvania you're not allowed to begin hunting until the age of 12, so the first chance I got in the woods was the first day archery season and I shot my first Doe. My passion for goose hunting was soon to follow, and my first time out I was able to get a 13 pound goose. That same day I called in two geese for some friends (which I believe was by accident, now that my knowledge of calling has grown). From that point, until I was 21, my waterfowl hunting had been almost completely cut out due to the declining number of birds and the absence of goose season for a couple years in the PA Atlantic flyway.

In 2002 I began hunting Geese again and that's when things really took off. That year was relatively slow, but in 2003 I learned a lot and bought some new equipment, including my first Tim Grounds goose call after meeting him at a sales show. To say that he is a world class guy would be an understatement. When the 2004 season came my Dad & I decided to start a private club. That has turned out to be a great success to all those who have joined. I now spend several weeks a year in the field pursuing geese.

My fulltime job at this time is project manger/estimator for an architectural millwork company. I also work as a regional sales rep for Drake Waterfowl & Higdon decoys.

Justin Downs

"My name is Justin Downs I am 20 years old and currently reside in Lothian Maryland. I spend all my time chasing waterfowl around the East coast from the eastern and western shores of Maryland to Pennsylvania and Virginia. I started hunting waterfowl when I was 6 years old. My dad had a guide service in Maryland and he allowed me to go along with him and his party two days after Christmas. We were in a pit on the Eastern shore and after his group of guys shot their limit he handed me my 410 single shot and started working a group of birds. They decoyed in our face and as he threw the door I stepped up on an igloo cooler to see out and pulled the trigger, killing my first goose. Ever since that day I developed a love for waterfowl hunting that seems to grow more and more each year. I am also currently a field staff member for Drake Waterfowl.

I have been hunting with Tim's calls since I was about 10 years old and could not see my self taking another call to the field. To hunt and kill geese you need realism in sound and that is exactly what you can expect from any call with the name "Tim Grounds" on it. Tim and Hunter have helped me to become a better caller and a better person as well as teaching me a lot about this business. Tim is a great guy and is willing to help out anyone. Mrs. Juda is also the sweetest, most kind lady I have ever met. I'm so proud to be part of the Grounds family. If you don't have a Grounds call you don't know what your missin'! So GET DOWN, COVER UP and if you think your ready...COME GETCHA SOME!!! "
