F.O.C.A.S. Lake of Egypt Tournament
LAKE OF EGYPT
GROUNDS AND MCKINNEY
DOMINATE F.O.C.A.S. ILLINOIS DIVISION OPENER
Weather: low 37 degrees and a high of 57 degrees-early morning scattered clouds clearing midday and sight cloud build up towards end of tournament, winds 5 to 15 mph with it increasing as the day went on getting strong towards end of day with gust to 25 mph-in general water clarity good-some color in areas but most of the lake with at least 2 to 3 feet visibility with some areas even clearer than that. Lake level is full but not going over spill way. March 19, 2005
The F.O.C.A.S. (Fellowship of Christian Anglers and Sportsman) kicked off their Illinois Division with a strong turn out of 101 boats at Lake of Egypt, the Southern Illinois hot spot. With an almost 20% increase in draw from last year this Illinois circuit could be headed for the top drawing circuit in Southern Illinois. In addition however Lake of Egypt has to be mentioned for the incredible results it has been posting. Complete details on www.mwbtarchives.com.
Well this tournament’s results would continue this incredible streak. Two area anglers again were going to unleash the secrets of this fishing hot spot and catch an amazing number of fish and bring to the scales an awesome bag for the 1st place finish.
The Johnston City, IL team of Hunter Grounds and Mike McKinney came out this fine day and caught five fish over the 16 inch upper limit of the lake’s protective slot. By 9:00AM the y had a limit of fish over 16 inches and also had what was to become the Big Bass for the day a wonderful 5.25 pound lunker. Working the midlake area using Carolina rigged Baby Brush Hogs in watermelon green they caught the top stringer in 15 feet of water. After all the culling was done and numerous smaller fish as well they banged the scales at 19.15 pounds and earned the big day’s check of $2000.00. Their big fish allowed them to collect an additional $606.00 making it a great day on the water. They are sponsored by Tim Grounds Championship Calls which can be found at www.timgrounds.com.

Hunter Grounds receives the 2000 Junior World Goose Calling Championship©
Award from Master of Ceremonies, Sean Mann and in Easton Maryland
As they say..."Like Father, Like Son" Hunter Grounds is bound to follow in his father's foot steps and win the World Goose Calling Championship in Easton Maryland one day. Having won the Junior
World Goose Calling Championship in 1999 and 2000.
Hunter
says, “All good callers have more than one call around
their neck for multiple sounds."
"In the year 2001 dad introduced the Hunter G’s 007
Magnum "This longer call will produce a deeper, richer
tone than the Hunter G's 007." The Hunter G's 007 and my New
Hunter G's 007 Magnum will do a lot of work for me during hunting
season. I
can’t wait!"

HUNTER GROUNDS WINS
THE 2001 Intermediate World's Championship Duck Calling Contest in
Stuttgart Arkansas
"Intermediate World's Championship Duck
Calling Contest" in Stuttgart, Arkansas November 23, 2001.
Hunter is 15 this year and had to move up to the Intermediate
division. There were 27 callers in the contest,
ages 14 to 17. Of course, he was blowing his RNT
duck call, the best contest call on the market today.
After Butch Richenback replaced the reed and cork in the same call
Hunter had won the Juniors with last year, Butch, once
again, took him in the back room and tuned the call to fit
Hunter to perfection, gave him some instruction, which
gave him the confidence needed to blow three sound rounds.
|
 |
Hunter was extremely humbled and surprised that he won.
Going into the first round, Hunter felt like his good buddy,
Daniel Duke, (who also blows the RNT) would win the contest
and after the third round Hunter still felt like Daniel had
won it. Daniel is an awesome caller and has a great
routine! When everything
was over the weekend of the WORLD Championship Duck Calling
contests, Nov. 23 and 24, 2001, in every event, the winner was
using none other than the Rich N Tone Duck Call -
- that looks like a full limit to me! RNT swept
the contest. As last year, Hunter
thanks Butch, the master of the duck call, for his
success. Hunter says, "I could not have done it
without him." |
